The advertisements pop-up and constantly distract you from work while researching on the internet taking your entire screen. The ads are a critical source of revenue for the websites and bloggers, but inappropriate content makes the netizens, especially the parents annoyed. Its time to block such ads, which are making net surfing vulnerable in many ways.

Let's know what pop-ups are and how dangerous they are...
Pop-up ads are one form of advertisement to attract web users' attention. Though they are meant for advertising purposes only, some may gather email addresses from your laptop or the system through which you are accessing internet.Clicking on one of these dangerous pop-ups could install a Trojan horse that unloads other malicious applications on your system or a keystroke logger with the ability to access any confidential data from tax information and passwords to your bank account.

Know How..!!!
First of all, let's discuss an easy way of blocking ads using Browser add-ons, AdBlock and AdBlock Plus...
These are wonderful add-ons which save you from pesky ads. This software works beautifully to stop advertisements from popping up on your webpages. It is a simple download that puts a small icon on the top of the web-browsers and lets you customize ad-blocking.
Below are the links for adding AdBlock extension for different browsers:

Blocking ads can be done even by using a firewall:

Messenger Service advertisements can be avoided by installing a firewall application or making use of your Windows Firewall. You can either download Zone Alarm, which is a firewall application, or enable the firewall in Windows (SP2) by:
1. Clicking on the Start menu and then "Run"
2. Enter the command Firewall.cpl
3. Activate this option by choosing On and clicking OK
This will block the ports required for Messenger Service data transmission.
P.S: If you are using third party firewall, don't enable the built-in Windows firewall.

Block ads at the router level:
An even more efficient way to block ads is at the router level. Install an ad-block script on your router, and any computer connected to your home network won't be served ads. But, most routers don't contain tools to block any sort of content (even ads) out of the box. However, open firmware tools, like DD-WRT and Tomato, which are pretty simple yet powerful in setting up a network-wide ad-blocking system.
